The Center for
Medical Genetics is a private academic institute
dedicated to providing the most comprehensive
genetic testing services available for our patients
and physicians. We are committed to serving the
needs of our patients by offering convenient,
conclusive results in a timely manner.
Established in 1997, we provide
a broad range of laboratory services in the
rapidly growing field of genetics. These laboratory
services include cytogenetics, molecular genetics,
biochemical genetics, as well as genetic counseling
services.
Our expert staff of professionals
include the medical director, Katherine Thompson,
MD, FACMG, the founder of the Center. Dr. Thompson
received her training in clinical genetics
and clinical cytogenetics through Baylor College
of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Thompson holds board certification by the
American Board of Medical Genetics in Clinical
Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics. She is
a fellow of the American College of Medical
Genetics, is active in numerous professional
organizations, and is a requested speaker at
numerous ongoing medical education courses
and seminars.
The cytogenetics
laboratory is headed by Dr. Jar-Fee Yung, PhD,

cytogenetics at the University of California,
Berkeley. She has served as the laboratory director
at Mercy Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois,
and was also the director of a clinical cytogeneticist
training program while at Mercy. She has headed
a national cytogenetics laboratory in New York

The molecular
laboratory is headed by Dr. Yaping Yang, PhD.
Dr. Yang received her training through Texas
A&M University, and UT Southwestern University
in Dallas. She then completed an additional molecular
genetics fellowship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center
in New York. She has served as the director of
the molecular diagnostic laboratory of the State
of Texas. She has published numerous papers and
articles on topics related to molecular diagnostics
of human disease.
The Center has a network
of highly skilled genetic counselors to service
the needs of our patients and referring physicians.
All certified genetic counselors have completed
a master level program in genetic counseling,
and senior level counselors are board certified
through the American board of Medical Genetics.
Through our work with the
Fetal Medicine Foundation, an international
organization established to promote research
and training in fetal medicine, we are actively
involved in sponsoring training of the ultrasound
nuchal translucency techniques. These techniques
are used in Ultra-Screen™ testing, a
revolutionary new service that offers women
conclusive results in the first trimester of
pregnancy. We also partner with other centers
and organizations dedicated to advancing health
through DNA analysis including in the areas
of new prenatal diagnostics, and in cancer
treatment and diagnostics.
We employ
caring enthusiastic individuals in the field of
genetics, including laboratory technically trained
staff and clinical staff. For employment information
